Dalfsen: a Young and Energetic Place

Dalfsen is a relatively young municipality in a beautiful green part of the Netherlands. It is situated in a rural area where lots of authentic farmhouses and small hamlets remind you of a blooming agricultural life.

On 1 January 2001 the two municipalities Dalfsen and Nieuwleusen were joined together and the new Dalfsen was a fact. By this construction a whole new municipality was created with 26,500 inhabitants. Besides the villages Dalfsen, Nieuwleusen, Lemelerveld, Oudleusen and Hoonhorst Dalfsen consists of an extensive countryside with lots of hamlets.

The community of Dalfsen is young and full of energy. First of all there are the numerous activities that take place, the active and extensive community life, the vast shopping possibilities in the largest villages and the variety of businesses in the industrial areas.

Also in international respect Dalfsen shows its energy. As a member of the international cooperative effort of several countries called “Euregio”, the German town of Horstel has become a partner/exchange town.
We also maintain friendly contacts with the Rumanian town of Dej.

Besides these historic monuments we also have a great variety of modern pieces of art that catch the eye. You can find them in places you least expect them. One of the most well-known pieces is “De Zwevende Kei” (“The Hovering/Floating Rock”) just outside the town of Dalfsen.

Many tourists come to Dalfsen every year during every season. We have a lot to offer. For example the river Vecht winds its way through the green meadows which surround the town. The landscape is pleasant and every time more and more visitors find their way to our attractive surroundings. Nearby you will discover the rich history of Dalfsen. Beautiful manors, estates, country seats and the monumental medieval castle of Rechteren. They all tell their own interesting stories.

The town of Dalfsen offers a wide range of primary educational institutions, health care, day care for young children, sports and welfare work. The inhabitants can also make use of all the good things a big city has to offer: the town of Zwolle, which lies only a few kilometres away, is an old and beautiful Hanseatic town.

Sports take an important place in the lives of the people in Dalfsen. There are volleyball, handball, table tennis, biking, motor biking and some of our sportsmen have won golden medals at the Special Olympics.
If you like to spend your time in a different way, we also have the following pastimes for you: sculpturing, photographing, music, acting and many other activities for every person from 1 to 100.
